Albania is located in south-eastern Europe in the Balkan peninsula bordered by the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in the north, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia in the east and Greece in the south east. To the west are the Adriatic and Ionian seas. The country covers an area of 28,750 km2, and is mainly mountainous apart from a flat coastline.
