Argentina
Argentina covers an area of 2.77 million square kilometres bordering the South Atlantic Ocean between Chile and Uruguay. It is the second-largest country in South America (after Brazil) and occupies a strategic location to the sea lanes between the South Atlantic and the South Pacific Oceans: the Strait of Magallan, Beagle Channel and Drake Passage. Among a population of 37.49 million, three-quarters of the people live in urban areas. The density of the population varies significantly. More than a third of Argentina’s population live in the capital city of Buenos Aires whereas few people live in Patagonia.

According to the United Nations Development Report, 2003, Argentina is ranked 34/175 countries, with a Human Development Index 0.8491. This places Argentina 34/175 countries worldwide.
