National and Professional Associations in Argentina
In 1991, Pallium Latinoamerica emerged out of an earlier and similar initiative developed in La Plata to structure and organize palliative care education and training in the country.8 The Pallium website9 gives a history of palliative care in Argentina, together with details of education and research opportunities.
The Argentinean Association for Medicine and Palliative Care (AAMPC) was established in 1994. The AAMPC website10 includes:
~Boletín Científico (Scientific Bulletin) - a monthly release that covers clinical, ethical and educational topics directed towards a wide audience of palliative care professionals.
~Normas - Legislación (Rules - Legislation) outlining the legislative framework that regulates palliative care and the use of opioids
Links have been created with the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC).11
In October 2004, the AAMyPC announced the creation of a National Directory of Palliative Care aiming at systematically recording palliative care initiatives developed countrywide.12
