The Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO) based in Cairo, as a World Health Organisation (WHO) office, aims to promote health in the 22 states of the region, of which Egypt is one. At present EMRO is proposing to develop a training programme as part of a plan to promote palliative care services in these states, since palliative care services remain underdeveloped.⁸

A palliative care training programme is being development at NCI, which aims to provide basic training as part of their general medical education for doctors, nurses and other professionals.⁹

At the Cairo Evangelical Medical Hospice, Naguib Elnikhaily has organised training courses provided by visiting nurses from the UK.¹⁰
