Jordan’s population of around 5,329,000 million is made up of the following ethnic groups: Arab 98%, Circassian 1%, Armenian 1%.
The population is predominantly young. About 12.1% is <5 years old; 38% is <15 years old; only 3.6% are > 65 years old. Around 62.9% of the population live in the central region of Jordan in Amman, Zarqa, Balqa and Madaba.54
Religious groups include: Sunni Muslim 92%, Christian 6% (majority Greek Orthodox, but some Greek and Roman Catholics, Syrian Orthodox, Coptic Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox, and Protestant denominations), other 2% (several small Shi'a Muslim and Druze populations) (2001 est.).55
