Meru Hospice

The service is run by one doctor, two nurses, two social workers and one clinical officer. The workload is shared between the clinic and the day centre with one nurse and one social worker attending at each.

There are times I also get to go with the social worker and sometimes we also … out-source a physiotherapist from the district hospital because we can’t afford to keep her so we get to look for her. When we identify certain spiritual needs that somebody has, say somebody’s a Muslim, we identify a certain Muslim spiritual leader who can come over with us to go for home visit... so … the visits are on a needs basis.38

The doctor and one nurse have undergone palliative care training at Nairobi Hospice.
