Hospice/Beacon Case Studies from Namibia

Catholic Aids Action

This community faith-based based programme relies on volunteers living and working in the local community. It has established excellent relationships with the Ministries of Health and Social Services, and Women and Child Welfare. It also works effectively with local clinics and community health services and has sound relationships with other faith based organizations and community based organizations. The Home Based Care Curriculum developed by CAA has been approved by the Ministry of Health and Social Services and is used nationally by other programmes.

Further training of volunteers is planned with an emphasis on a psycho-social curriculum primarily aimed at working with children. Staff training in play therapy, behavioural management and basic child development is developing. Pilot sites are planned for the introduction of palliative care training in collaboration with community health services.
