National and Professional Associations in Sierra Leone

The following organisations feature prominently in Sierra Leone:

CORDAID

This Netherlands-based organisation is committed to supporting the poor and relieving suffering:

CORDAID opts for poor, marginalised groups in society who are deprived of their rights and supports them and their organisations irrespective of age, sex, sexual inclination, origin, belief or political persuasion. Improving living conditions and strengthening society go hand in hand. CORDAID provides emergency aid and gives means to social organisations.9

Bread for the World

The Bread for the World Institute:

seeks justice for hungry people by engaging in research and education on policies related to hunger and development.10

 The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)

UNICEF works for children’s rights, survival, development and protection.11

British Executive Service Overseas (BESO)

BESO is an international development charity that has now merged with VSO.12

Christian Health Association of Sierra Leone (CHASL)

This is a non-governmental, non-profit making, interdenominational health coordinating agency whose secretariat in Freetown serves over 30 member heath institutions in Sierra Leone.  Membership is open to Christian-based health institutions in Sierra Leone.14

Catholic Relief Services (CRS)

CRS provides emergency relief and development activities in more than 80 countries worldwide.15

Friends of The Shepherd’s Hospice ( UK)

This UK-based group supports the hospice in variety of ways, such as raising funds and providing training.

World Bank

The World Bank Group offers loans, advice and resources in more than 100 countries world wide.16
