Ethical Issues in Zimbabwe

In Zimbabwe, a belief that deceased relatives control family affairs impacts upon attitudes towards illness. While accepting the nature of contemporary, western medicine, illness is thought to originate in avenging ancestral spirits and its remedy therefore, lies in rituals of appeasement.29,34 As a result, many Zimbabweans initially consult traditional healers and movement between these parallel systems often results in late presentation of disease.
