Palliative Care 'Coverage' in Zimbabwe

Bekezela Community Home Based Care covers 5/14 wards within the district of Bubi (population: 56,000).

 Dananai Home Based Care (Murambinda) covers north Buhera, population 150,000.

Family AIDS Caring Trust (FACT) has developed a regional role supporting local organisations in their response to the AIDS epidemic.

Island Hospice and Bereavement ServiceHarare covers a population of 1.5 million and Chitungwiza - 1 million. Comprehensive services are generally available in the larger centres of Harare and Bulawayo. Island Hospice Bulawayo covers Bulawayo municipality - a radius of about 15 kilometres from the hospice; and Island Hospice Mutare covers a population of 176,630.

Lubancho House covers 4 chiefdoms which spread from Victoria Falls to Lupane. A doctor is on the board of trustees and patients have access to medical support at Hwange Colliery Hospital.

 Mashambanzou Care Trust utilises four home based care teams, each with a sister and counsellor, which cover the greater Harare area, Porta Farm, and Epworth.

 Morgenster Mission Hospital covers a population of around 200,000; the home based care programme covers 60,000.

 Seke Home Based Care serves all 21 wards of Manyame Rural District (population 150,000).

 Thembelihle Halfway Home cares for patients in Bulawayo.
