Cathy Greenblat
Cathy Stein Greenblat was born in New York. A sociologist with a B.A. from Vassar College and a Ph.D. from Columbia University, she is currently Professor Emerita of Sociology at Rutgers University, a Visiting Researcher at the Université Jean Monnet Saint-Etienne, France, and an Artist Fellow at the Brodsky Center, Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University.
Professor Greenblat is the author of 13 books and more than 100 published journal articles. She has lectured and run workshops in the United States, South America, Eastern and Western Europe, Russia, Africa, Israel, the Philippines, China and Japan. She has been a visiting professor or visiting scholar at Princeton University, the University of New Hampshire, the University of Chicago, the Université Francois Rabelais in Tours, France, and the University of Valencia, Spain. Dr. Greenblat’s initial photographic work evolved from her research, her travels, and her desire to illustrate some of her sociological writing. She regularly taught an advanced seminar at Rutgers in Visual Sociology.
Cathy is developing joint work with David Clark and others at the Observatory on the photographic documentation of palliative care worldwide.
