Staff Profile - Professor Carol Thomas
Carol Thomas
Carol joined the Institute for Health Research in 2002, having worked closely with colleagues in the IHR for a number of years from her location in the Department of Applied Social Science at Lancaster University. She is a Reader in Sociology, specialising in disability studies and the sociology of health and illness. At earlier stages in her career, she held research and teaching posts at Sheffield University, Sheffield Health Authority and Sheffield Hallam University. She has a 1st Class Honours degree in Sociology (University of Sheffield) and a PhD in Sociology (University of Warwick).
Carol is working closely with Observatory staff and is a consultant for the Narratives Theme of the Cancer Experiences Collaborative (CECo). She is also involved in an ESRC-funded project: 'Narratives of Living and Dying with Cancer: Sociological Perspectives'.
