Lars Johan Materstvedt
Lars Johan joined the IOELC in September, 2003. He and David got to know each other through the European Association for Palliative Care (EAPC; read the paper about this NGO), and both sat on the organisation’s Ethics Task Force on Palliative Care and Euthanasia (Lars Johan as Chair). This taskforce produced a position paper that since June 2003 is the official view of the EAPC on this issue.
Lars Johan is a philosopher by training, and holds a PhD on the political philosophies of Robert Nozick and Immanuel Kant. He carried out research on the relationship between euthanasia and palliative medicine as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Norwegian Cancer Society; herein semistructured interviews with terminally ill cancer patients about euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide.

Projects
Lars Johan is a Visiting Research Fellow with the IOELC, having a special interest in end-of-life ethics and is responsible for the IOELC’s Ethics page. He also collaborates with various European researchers within the same field. One is Dr Georg Bosshard, who was with CESAGen at Lancaster University as an Honorary Visiting Fellow, and who was also involved with IOELC. Please visit Georg's academic website here.
