Nic Hughes
Nic Hughes is a Macmillan Research Fellow and Lecturer in Nursing at the University of Leeds. His association with the Observatory began with collaborations on the Hospice History Project and he is now undertaking PhD study at Lancaster supervised by Prof. David Clark.
Nic’s research interests and writing have been predominantly in palliative care and end-of-life. His PhD investigates experiences living with cancer of people aged 75 and older.
Projects/Studies
Nic began PhD study at Lancaster, part-time, in October 2005. His study is in two parts. Study 1 is a systematic review and meta-synthesis of qualitative literature reporting older people’s experiences of cancer. Study 2 is an empirical inquiry using narrative methods, focused on cancer experiences of men and women aged 75 and older living in the North West of England.
Nic has also been working recently with Dr. Iris Fineberg on a systematic review of the literature on integrated care for patients dying in hospital.
